Ana Maria Schwindt has a DDS and an MS (Oral Pathology). She has been involved in higher education for the past 27 years as an instructor at two different state colleges and most recently as a professional advisor. She works in the Burnett School of Biomedical Sciences in the College of Medicine at the University of Central Florida.
As a parent of a child with chronic illnesses and an active member of the Nemours Children’s Hospital (NCH) Family Advisory Council (FAC), Ana Maria is a strong advocate of enhancing patient and family experiences within the hospital context by promoting the voice of patients and families. Ana Maria is also part of the FAC as faculty. Ana Maria advocated for patients and their families during the construction and design of the hospital and the Ronald McDonald House at NCH. Ana Maria also serves on the FAC Interview Committee and actively participates in the interview process for leadership and health care provider candidates.
Having three children all of whom were Nemours patients has given Ana Maria firsthand experience and great insight into children’s healthcare and treatment. Her youngest child has Type 1 Diabetes and hypothyroid. Ana Maria’s family has also made the fight to cure diabetes her number one passion. Every year she raises funds and participates in the JDRF One Walk. She also advocates for Congress to fund research for Type 1 Diabetes through the NIH as part of the Special Diabetes Program through the JDRF.
