Jonathan A. Finkelstein, MD, MPH, is a pediatrician, health services researcher, and Vice-chair for Quality and Outcomes in the Department of Medicine at Boston Children’s Hospital. His professional activities have focused on the link between the quality of clinical care for children and the health of the population overall, bringing together classical research paradigms and quality measurement and improvement methods. He has studied changing patterns of antibiotic use for children and then tested community-based approaches to promoting their appropriate use in primary care practice. Currently, he serves as the Scientific Lead for PEDSNet, a PCORI-funded CDRN comprising 8 of the nation’s largest children’s hospitals. As an educator he co-directs the Harvard-wide Pediatric Health Services Research Fellowship, through which he has helped to train a generation of researchers focused on health care delivery. This program is currently pioneering methods for patient and family engagement in research training. He is Professor of Pediatrics and of Population Medicine at Harvard Medical School and holds the Donald M. Berwick MD Chair in Pediatric Quality and Outcomes at Boston Children’s Hospital.
