Prof Localio has been on the faculty in the Department of Biostatistics and Epidemiology in the Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania since 1997, after serving on the faculty at Penn State University School of Medicine in Hershey.  His graduate degrees are from University of Michigan, Michigan State University, Harvard, and University of Pennsylvania.  At U Penn, he has taught formal classes in introductory biostatistics to physicians, and then developed and taught for 8 years a full-semester course in longitudinal and clustered data analysis.  In addition to his teaching activities, he has served as principal and co-investigator on grant-funded collaborative research with investigators in Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Family Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Cardiology, Psychiatry, Surgery, Pulmonary Medicine, Allergy and Immunology, Infectious Diseases, Gastroenterology, and Endocrinology.  Ongoing projects are funded not only by NIH and private foundations but also by PCORI.  In addition to these activities, Prof. Localio has served continuously for 19 years as an associate editor (statistics) for Annals of Internal Medicine.
