Nicole Kahn, PhD, MEd

Nicole Kahn, PhD, MEd, is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Seattle Children’s Hospital. She completed her Ph.D. in maternal and child health from the Gillings School of Global Public Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC) in 2018, where she continues to serve as an adjunct assistant professor. She possesses skills in both quantitative and qualitative research, including advanced statistical methods using large datasets and survey data and inductive thematic analysis approaches, respectively. Her goal is to become a research policy leader in using human-centered design approaches to work collaboratively with diverse youth and families to improve adolescent-serving health systems. Her project is titled, “Transgender and gender diverse youth and caregiver perspectives on confidential care and the electronic medical record." Her project will be explored through the following aims:

  • To develop and administer a survey of TGD adolescent patients and caregivers regarding their preferences and experiences with the patient portal as it relates to confidential care. 
  • To conduct a randomized controlled trial focused on understanding how activation of patient portal functionalities affects access, usage, and satisfaction.
