Dr. Scobell completed a fellowship in pediatric nephrology at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia in 2021 and is currently completing a post-doctorate Master of Science in Clinical Epidemiology at the University of Pennsylvania. She aspires to become an independent learning health systems (LHS) researcher focused on improving patient outcomes and health care delivery to patients with kidney disease. Her project is titled, “Improving Equitable Access to Care in Children and Adolescents with High-Risk Kidney Disease." Her project will be explored through the following aims:
- Identify clinical characteristics and SDoH that are associated with patients developing gaps in care, loss to follow-up, or acute care utilization by retrospectively reviewing all patients with high-risk kidney disease, defined as complex nephrotic syndrome, lupus nephritis, and/or stage 4-5 CKD, cared for at CHOP.
- Engage patients and families through semi-structured interviews to deepen our understanding of the barriers to access of routine care and guide the design of a multi-faceted intervention to address barriers with the goal of decreasing disparities in care.
