Structured interviews of Lived ExperiencE in Patients (SLEEP study) Obstructive Sleep Apnea and Central Sleep Apnea

This is a prospective study of patient reported outcomes, patient preferences, and patient experiences to gather Patient Generated Data (PGD) from patients with Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) and Central Sleep Apnea (CSA) from 3 populations — adolescents (12-18), adults (19-65) and seniors (over 65). A computable phenotype to identify potential study participants through administrative claims data and/or electronic medical records will be developed. Study instruments will include structured interview discussion guides and will incorporate the input from the project partners’ subject matter experts.

The study will focus on patient perspectives regarding three major inquiries:

  • What benefits and challenges/risks/side effects do patients face when using PAP therapy?
  • What incremental changes to PAP design or delivery would benefit patients the most
  • How do patients see themselves becoming more involved in PAP design, regulatory approval, post-market evaluation, surveillance of PGD, and coverage decision
