Overview

The PEDSnet Scholars Program is a grant awarded under the AHRQ and PCORI Learning Health System Embedded Scientist Training and Research Centers (P30). Beginning in 2024, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) and Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) is investing up to $80 million dollars in 16 institutions over 5 years to support the training of clinician and research scientists to conduct patient-centered outcomes research within learning health systems (LHS). The institutions funded under this initiative are producing the next generation of LHS researchers who have the skill sets to conduct, apply, and implement patient-centered outcomes research to improve quality of care and patient outcomes in a learning health system.

The PEDSnet Scholars Program is designed to prepare promising junior faculty to conduct learning health system research that will improve the efficiency, value and quality of healthcare and outcomes for children and their families. It builds upon prior efforts of multidisciplinary faculty with decades of experience in research mentorship and the resources of 12 nationally renowned pediatric academic medical centers that have collaborated together in the PEDSnet clinical research network since its founding in 2013. PEDSnet scholars will learn and use new methods that leverage modern clinical data systems and test interventions in pragmatic child/family-centered outcomes research studies, embedded in diverse delivery systems and communities.

The PEDSnet Scholars Program is being administratively led by the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, and designed and overseen collaboratively with Boston Children's Hospital and Nationwide Children's Hospital. In addition, representatives from all PEDSnet institutions serve on the Steering Committee which makes all final decisions on content and program activities.
