In most cases, each variable definition consists of a code set applied to a specific type of clinical data. For these variables, the presence of a code from the code set serves as evidence of the variable of interest within a study. In some instances, more complex logic, such as inclusion and exclusion criteria for a cohort, is required to identify relevant patients or events.
Each Variable Definition in this collection corresponds to a study variable explored by PEDSnet, ensuring consistency and reproducibility across analyses. Exploration of this collection may help potential collaborators conceptualize the breadth of PEDSnet clinical data and understand how variables have been used in prior research, and support current investigators by providing existing code reuse. This variable library is continually evolving, updated with each new publication or dissemination product.
