Description
The PMCA algorithm identifies children with complex chronic disease who have accessed tertiary hospital ED, day surgery, or inpatient care sites. These functions were adapted to R to improve use of the algorithm against the PEDSnet database. The PMCA functions include the following processes:
- Produce a PMCA table of observations with a 3-year lookback from the observation_date.
- Compute a table of visit counts for the prior 3 years and flag chronic/complex chronic conditions, malignancy, and progressive conditions for each body system identified for each patient in the cohort.
- Compute the most conservative PMCA algorithm for the complex chronic flag.
- Generate final patient-level flags indicating counts of progressive and malignant conditions, the complex chronic flag, and counts of body systems.
- Generate flags indicating presence of PMCA body systems within the prior 3-year lookback period.
