Abstract

The results of a Quantitative Variable Distribution check using the Multi-Site, Exploratory, Cross-Sectional parameters. This check evaluates blood pressure, eGFR, and urine protein distributions at each institution.

Funder(s)

Provenance

This data quality check was run on a database extracted from the The Preserving Kidney Function in Children With CKD (PRESERVE) Study. These results were not used for the study, but rather run on the study data after analysis was conducted as part of an SSQDA demonstration project.

Description

  • Systolic and diastolic blood pressure display very uniform behavior amongst the sites and do not seem to have any notable outliers. The mean and median are also relatively similar.
  • Nationwide is a major outlier for eGFR values, which will require further investigation. Most other sites behave relatively consistently.
  • Urine protein has a wide array of site distributions which all seem to be quite skewed given the differences between the mean and median. This could be due to unit reporting inconsistencies in this lab type amongst the various institutions. Futher investigation is needed to determine if conversion is required.

Response to Findings

Study team did not conduct further investigation or data intervention in response to these results because this was a demonstration project intended to highlight the functionality of the SQUBA tool.

This check provides raw data and visualizations to aid a user in evaluating whether the distribution of quantitative variables aligns with clinical expectations. It can summarize the distribution of a quantitative variable (like lab result values) or patient counts (like number of patients with an outpatient visit).
