Project Description
The Urinary Stone Disease Hub (USDHub) is an innovative research initiative designed to advance the understanding, treatment, and prevention of urinary stone disease (USD), a condition that affects over 11% of the U.S. population and incurs healthcare costs exceeding $10 billion annually. USDHub aims to address key barriers in USD research, such as the lack of comprehensive, longitudinal data, by creating a large-scale, accessible data resource drawn from over 236,000 children and adults treated at 10 U.S. health systems participating in STAR and PEDSnet.
The project links structured electronic health record (EHR) data to clinically important information extracted from CT images, 24-hour urine chemistries, and unstructured clinical notes. By combining this rich data with input from patients and caregivers, USDHub empowers researchers to conduct impactful studies, including real-world comparative effectiveness research, clinical trials, and studies focused on underserved populations.
Study Aims
USDHub"s ultimate goal is to improve clinical care and outcomes for individuals with USD by providing an open, sustainable data resource that supports cutting-edge research. The findings are shared through a public portal, pilot grants, and educational initiatives to enhance the USD research community"s capacity for impactful scientific discovery‚Äã.
