Provenance

This concept set was developed for the Preserving Kidney Function in Children with Chronic Kidney Disease (PRESERVE) study. Primary care visits per person year was summarized for PRESERVE cohorts, however, this was not a high priority variable for the study.

Description

This concept set contains codes intended to identify primary care visits (in combination with the primary care facility concept set). This concept set was generated by restricting the PCORnet CDM value set to providers that are consistent with primary care (e.g., primary care, general practice, or preventative medicine). The value set uses the “Medicare Specialty” vocabulary, though the PEDSnet CDM also uses “ABMS”, “NUCC”, and “PEDSnet” vocabularies.

Note: this concept set could benefit from additional review and validation.

A PEDSnet equivalent concept set is linked below, though identification of primary care visits is currently an active area of development for PEDSnet. Visit specialty information alone is unlikely to capture all the required information to identify primary care.
