Suicide is the second leading cause of death among young adults in the United States. Sexual and gender
diverse young adults (SGDYA) are at particularly high risk. SGDYA includes individuals who are lesbian, gay,
bisexual, transgender, queer, or of another sexual or gender identity that is not heterosexual or cisgender.
This population experiences higher rates of depression and suicidal ideation and often lacks adequate
support from their social networks.
Aim:
The long-term goal of this project is to reduce suicide risk in SGDYA. To achieve this, we are conducting a
cluster randomized trial (CRT; N=598) to compare the effectiveness of YST-III and STAT-PC on the primary
outcome of suicidal ideation (SI), as measured by the Adult Suicidal Ideation Questionnaire (ASIQ).
