Abstract

The results of a Clinical Events & Specialties check using the Multi-Site, Exploratory, Cross-Sectional parameters. This check evaluates the distribution of specialty utilization in visits at each institution associated with serum creatinine labs or antihypertensive prescriptions.

Funder(s)

Provenance

This data quality check was run on a database extracted from the The Preserving Kidney Function in Children With CKD (PRESERVE) Study. These results were not used for the study, but rather run on the study data after analysis was conducted as part of an SSQDA demonstration project.

Description

  • Pediatric institutions have the highest proportion of specialty utilization across several categories, like Stanford with the highest proportion of Primary Care / General Peds or Nemours with the highest proportion of Nephrology.
  • The most utilized specialties across both labs and prescriptions were Primary Care / General Peds, Nephrology, Cardiology, and Other/Unknown. There is high heterogeneity in these categories, with a wide range of visit proportions across sites.
  • Some notable findings are that Lurie has a high proportion of Emergency Medicine specialty utilization compared to other sites, Nationwide is one of the only sites with Hematology interaction, and UFlorida has a high proportion of Palliative Care utilization.

Response to Findings

Study team did not conduct further investigation or data intervention in response to these results because this was a demonstration project intended to highlight the functionality of the SQUBA tool.

Clinical Events and Specialty Agreement: Multi-Site, Exploratory, Cross-Sectional Analysis
Created:2024-06-05Check Category:Concordance
This check computes types of clinical events that occur across clinician or facility specialties. It summarizes the quality of clinical specialty data in a study sample to examine multiple sites. The intention of the check is to evaluate the concordance of specific events (e.g., diagnosis of type I diabetes) and specialist providers or care sites (e.g., endocrinologist or endocrinology clinic) at the visit level.
